Earlier in the day, I bought a pair of pink goggles for Lena. “Put these on.” I hand them to her and toss Gracie her pair.

Lena puts them on, and my pants suddenly feel as if they are suffocating my dick. I lean down and kiss her. “You look cute.”

I say cute since my siblings are around. She’s sexy as sin.

She blushes.

“Is this the stuff you wanted to do when you saw those DIY shows?”

“Yep.”

“Have you swung a sledgehammer before?”

“Nope.”

“Can I give you a lesson first so you don’t injure yourself?”

“So, there’s an art to it?” she teases me.

“Something like that.”

Gracie picks the hammer off the ground and says, “It’s like this, Lena.” In perfect form, just like Ryland and I taught her, she busts the tool through the drywall.

“Wow. That was impressive!” Lena exclaims.

“Great. Gracie’s having all the fun, and that means I’m going to get stuck cleaning up,” Conner steps inside, grumbling.

“Lena, too.” Gracie smirks.

Conner groans. “And I liked you.”

“But I made you dinner,” Lena sweetly tells Conner.

“What did you make?”

“Lasagna.”

“Did you bring garlic bread?”

“I did.” She beams at him.

Conner grabs the broom. “Fine. You demolish, I’ll clean.”

“All she had to do was feed you, and you aren’t going to complain? Wow. I’ve been doing it all wrong these years,” I taunt Conner.

“Yep. Plus, you can’t cook like Lena, so you should take some lessons.”

“Ouch.” I pretend to stab my heart and reach for the box of construction-grade bags then hand it to Conner. “Don’t forget your trash bag.”

He says something under his breath, but I ignore him and turn to Lena. “You ready to try it?”

A huge grin forms on her face. “Yep.”

I wrap my body around hers and show her the motion to make with the sledgehammer. After a few practices, I say, “Ready for the real thing?”

“Yes.” She eagerly steps away from me and positions herself in front of the wall, does exactly what I showed her, and crushes through it.

That’s my girl!

Everyone cheers, and she glows.

Damn, she’s sexy.

Kate would never have wanted to help with any of this.

I’m not trying to compare her to Kate, but I can’t help that all the things Lena does for me or with me are so different from the woman I was obsessed with for so long.

It makes me realize how wrong for me Kate was. And how much I would have been missing out on if she was still with me.

I’ll take Lena over Kate any day. And she wants to spend time with my family and me but not just for parties. She wants to be part of normal life and pitch in and help.

Just like she always takes care of me. And she doesn’t grumble about it but seems to have fun doing it.

I peck her on the lips. “You’re a quick learner.”

She winks at me. “I had a good teacher.”

“When do we get to eat? I’m starving,” Conner says.

Lena turns and hands him the hammer. “You take a few swings, and I’ll finish getting dinner ready.
